Excellent stuff. To the untrained eye or to those simpletons who only see good in power moves (LOL), the style looks like 2 steps removed from dancing. When you send assailants flying through the air with dislocated joints, they'll know not to mess with you.

the more i feel that "putting on a motor cycle helmet" is the ultimate in self-defence really.
if theres ever a weapon involved , just run away, even those anti-knife, techniques DON'T TRY THEM, the bad guy will most probably make little jabs at your arms and hands and face, not like the "oh i'm aiming for your heart" stuff they teach u.
Just have fun whilst sparring with your friends.
Reply:Apart from training in a martial system, learning techniques and forms (Ba ji = Bagua?) there's the matter of being able to respond properly under the pressure of an actual street fight. In a street fight there's the real intention of people wanting to hurt you, mug you or whatever. This will cause high stress levels in you. Like any other animal your body only wants to survive. Usually there's the response of freeze, flight or fight. When it comes to fighting there's a big chance you'll have no control over your fine motor skills and narrow vision. The ability to stay calm and act appropriately in a real fighting situation is quite difficult, but can be trained to a degree. this is best done within the school. Better to have your body and ego bruised in training than to be killed on the street. if your training is motivated by a perceived need for self defense you can ask your teacher to focus your training on this and stilling the mind.
Reply:this is very controversial theme, not only in ba ji and xing yi, but in all tma. many ppl believe that tma is too out dated, focus on only one factor of a fight too much, etc. for example, xing yi and baji's both stand up style and many mma ppl will criticize it for lack of ground game. xing yi ppl might fight back claiming five elements could be trasitioned into ground fighting as well, or something like that.
i think that it's the fighter and what they trained for. most xing yi and baji practices doesn't do enough of kicking or ground game at all, but kicking might not be nessary and maybe you could train in not getting into a ground game situation.
all in all, i think xing yi and baji is both good styles to learn, but how effective in a fight it is is really up to you.

But be aware that in the street there are more obstacles tahn in the dojo - speaking as one who was amazed at the pain caused by backing up into a metal pole to stop traffic coming up onto the pavement. Though my pelvis was broken - the natural padding in that area was of no use in this situation, the pain!

Is it illegal to film a street fight?
Nope. If you staged it for money or prizes or instigated it it's a different story. There might be some local bylaw against it but doubtful.

I'd pick John Cena becuz he used to be the most-liked heel who cheated and would use objects to win in any match. Just becuz he's a face now doesn't mean he can't go back to those dirty tactics.
Then again, I'd pick Batista becuz he's a natural at being the heel who plays dirty. He grew up in a pretty horrible neighborhood, worked as a bouncer and almost killed a guy on the job, and wuz stealing cars at 13 years old.
Overall, I'd say it's a tie. I'm sorry! I can't pick!!
