The Golden rule in real street fighting?

I've been on answers since jan 07 and I'm totally fed up reading replies like jiu-jitsu ,Aikido dont work in real life fight situations.

Anyone who says that clearly has'nt digested the golden rule of both theses arts which is the pre-emptive strike or strikes using ether fists, kicks, knees, elbows or a good old head butt.

Obviously your attacker isn't gonna stand there and let you apply a wrist lock ,arm bar or throw without serious resistants

However if you apply the golden rule and hit hard with a serious blow using whatever works to stun, distract or disable your attacker first then you should if applied correctly be in a position to throw, lock,or indeed run away.

So please all those who have never practaced real fighting using jiu-jitsu or Aikido etc please remember those who have been there know what really works!!!!

Former jiu-jitsu coach and ex bouncer,Boxer and karateka.

Oh!! and street fighter !!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Golden rule in real street fighting?
Strike first / use anything you have too win ( bottle...lump of wood ...anything / if you fight fair ..you will lose....Eyes and knee caps are good targets ...if they cant see / stand ,,,, the fight is over....nuff said
Reply:It's true, been there. Could not speak for twenty minutes or stand upright.
Reply:Jiu jitsu does work in a streetfight, i should know because it has for me. You obviously dont have a good technique.
Reply:First rule of Fight Club - you do not talk about Fight...oh

My 6 year-old does karate, she's a delicate flower who is hard as nails. I do not enjoy her practicing on me...LOL
Reply:You forgot teeth. A good bite solves a lot of problems!

Hear what your saying though. I did Judo for many years and in the countless pub brawls and street fights I was in, I never found it as usefull as a good right cross or a kick to the nads.

It was usefull practice for dealing with the typical hang on and hope method employed my most wannabe gangsters who throw one, miss and then realise they have bitten off more than they could chew and hope to keep you hands pinned so you can't throw one back.
Reply:If you truly had confidence in your ability, you wouldn't feel the need to get into street fights. You hang around a profession that will get you in them and situations where you will be called on to use what you know, in all likelihood because you have a chip on your shoulder. So that whatever you're learning, it's not been teaching you wisdom.

Martial arts are not for fights. They're only to be used in case of assault. I haven't got into a fight in almost two decades and I don't intend to ever again. If somebody assaults me, I'll do my best, but nothing will make you invulnerable. What you should ask yourself is why you think street fights are so glamorous; they're sloppy affairs, usually involving alcohol in which people risk serious injury or legal repercussions for absolutely no good reason.

Now I can believe you're getting assaulted once, maybe twice in your life, but if it keeps happening to you, people are fighting you for a reason. If a bar is the kind of place where there's a fight every weekend, I wouldn't be caught dead in that dump. If you're reasonably decent with people, few will want to fight you. If people are lining up to fight you, you're doing something wrong. Martial arts should also be teaching you that kind of maturity. Technique is only the surface.

I think the article below is the best I've ever seen on the subject:
Reply:It's true you aren't going to be able to do the stuff like when in training but it is possible to do it it will just be harder alot more of a struggle. With good training though you will be able to kick some butt. I have been in a fight before and six years of kenpo took no part in it. Some advice if your ever in that sort of situation get your oppenent to the ground.
Reply:Totally true!! i am fed up with those people too
Reply:Dude, yes, but the whole proncipal of Aikido is that you never attack, but thats not the point, sometimes when you are the first to strike you are the one who is going to get sued/arrested for assult, ofcource it depends on the situation

ofcource if you strike first one sucker punch will do it, or even better, a kick to the groin, no man will stand after a solid hit to the groin, then its GG, striking first is a no brainer, I could walk down he street come up to the badest street fighter and smack him in the balls and he'll go down, but when you are fighting a guy who knows what he is doing, when he is ready for a fight and not just fliping his lip off, or if he has the same mentality as you to strike first what would you have your money on? an art where you learn to take a hit to the head a few times and wont be shocked from it or one where you never really spar or practice alivenes?

By the way i dont think many people say that jiu-jitsu is ineffective, its mostly Aikido that they have a problem with, anything will work if the other person doesnt know anything, but if the other person knows martial arts too its a different story
Reply:I agree with MARC in his article and his points about traditional martial arts being about a lot more than self defense or fighting period and statements like bjj or mma is the ultimate or deadliest or where it's at appeals only to those who

ONE have never experienced a real knock down drag em away fight

TWO are making money promoting that idea

THREE immature emotionally and mentally and need a security blanket

FOUR make statements that sound macho and bad dude that no one can prove either way

FIVE avoid the reality that real violent people unlike the punks they hang around with and try to impress carry things like guns knives and fight with tire irons baseball bats and broken bottles and no training in any method can adequately prepare you for that.

SIX they always seem to assume the other guy is stupid or slower or weaker etc.and won't use vicious brutal methods to win whether they are trained or not.

SEVEN training for sport being the only goal is bullshit martial arts.
Reply:I believe a true martial artist fights without fighting, like what Bruce Lee said. Sure he could kick anyones ***, he did not want to but he was constantly targeted by other wood be martial artist who lost the meaning of martial arts and think by defeating Bruce they would be the best, so as his last resort he had to defeat them. Im in Hap Ki Do, and never had to use my Martial arts in a conflict, i just never let it get that far. A wise fighter choses not to fight but only uses it as his last resort, but to correct myself i should say defend which is totally different from fighting. And for anyone to actually get in so many fights you must be carrying yourself to high above the rest or not a very humble person. Im not saying fighting is inevitable it just should not even need to come to that point. Thats all .Peace everyone. (this comment is not directed to anyone so dont take it offensivly.)
Reply:Most Martial Artist have NEVER experienced a real street fight.

Most of them may have had fights or have been beaten up, but those fights were lame at best.

If you want to experience a real Street Fight, then go to the Hood around 10:00pm on a Friday or Saturday night and run your mouth.

Then see how your art works in real life.
Reply:the golden rule in streetfighting?

1)If you've got the gold you won't be streetfighting, you can afford people to do it for you.

2)If you've got gold on you, you better know streetfighting 'cause you'll get mugged!
