More realistic for a street fight Gi or No-Gi?

Judo or Jujitsu or any other people who use Gi's do you think that it is more realistic to train with a Gi or without a Gi? In a fight the guy you fight always has some kind of clothes

More realistic for a street fight Gi or No-Gi?
No-Gi is more realistic but the reason for the Gi isn't for realism, it's so that you can get used to the worst conditions to make it easier during a real fight. (Protecting the neck better from Gi chokes, heat, and weight of the Gi)
Reply:A Gi is useful for training because it allows for freedom of movement and Does not have buttons zippers or clips to scratch pop off oar tare. it is an excellent idea to occasional practice self defenses in street clothes. Street cloths are more restrictive and harder to grab than a belt on a Gi. There is for some a different mind set when in there street cloths. We have our advanced students do this from time to time. We sometimes take it outside to the park. Surroundings make a difference to.
Reply:Training in both is going to give you the best chance. It really depends on what your opponent is wearing. Coats and jackets are going to be similar to a gi, because they are tough enough to hold onto and typically won't rip. In the summer, no gi training is going to pay off more. Light weight clothes are going to rip or stretch too much to use effectively. Good luck!
Reply:I think its important to train with both. With a Gi you learn how to pull and off balance without destroying each others clothes and it gives you an idea of how grappling principles work. Then you can try and figure out how to make those principles work without a Gi. Its much tougher to do without. By working with both you gain valuable experience on how to use both. If you live in a colder climate like Chicago where people would wear heavy coats then it makes sense. Then in the same context if you live in Florida, it makes sense to train without because of the warmer climate. Keeping in mind seasons change and so does the wardrobe. Thats realistic training for different situations.
Reply:no-gi unless you are fighting someone with a tux on.
Reply:Here in Boston during a cold winter when every one is bundled up, including the muggers, then it would be more realistic to train with a Gi.

Here in Boston during a heat wave in summer when every one is walking around in shorts, sandles, and T-shirts or tank tops (including the muggers) then a no-Gi style would be more realistic.
Reply:nobody is going to walk the streets with no clothes on ,he would be arrested. good to train with both . if it works with no gi its definitely going to work wearing one .i train in kungfu and we wear tee shirts and throws still work[regardless of the potential to tear]good luck , train hard.
Reply:I train my guys in BDU's. It is kind of a best of both worlds situation. The sleeves, belt, and collars aren't as exaggerated but still there is clothing to grab. Collar chokes with t-shirts and BDU's are far different than a gi, just to give one example.
