I have had many street fights and won all but one..

I am not the type of person to go out looking for a fight, but somehow I always seemed to find one.

I am certainly the exception to the rule..as I had no formal training, but have beaten boxers and state champion wrestlers. I do not say this to brag by any means, as my advice would be to walk away if possible.

My point is this..instinct is the biggest factor in a street fight. Somehow I was blessed with this instinct..actually I think I was cursed with it sort of..had an older half brother who beat my @ss everyday to vent his frustrations. I finally beat his @ss when I was 13 and he was 15..

I don't recommend this sort of preparation for a street fight.

I would recommend that you do pursue Judo training. I can not see how it could ever hurt you..but be open minded and pursue other Martial Arts as well.

Mixed Martial Arts training with killer instincts...hard to beat.

Good luck in whatever you pursue, but please, don't go looking for a fight as you will always find one and it will not always end the way you think it will..
Reply:The best is krav maga, it is used by the IDF(Israeli Defense Force) and combines the best moves from all martial arts, including Judo. Its is about fighting it is not a sport.
Reply:From what I've heard Judo is a watered down Jujitsu made for sport rather than self defense. It can be useful in a street fight I guess but I recommend taking boxing and jujitsu classes. Boxing for striking of course and jujitsu for submission. I have also heard great things about Aikido...
Reply:Judo is theoretically a competitive sport. you can win a fight using judo, but very few dojos train anyone to "street fight" in judo. Training is mainly geared around certain competitive rules. As a sport, the rules are basically pretty good.
Reply:Yes. Not so much the sport judo, but a combat judo, one aimed more for self-defence situtations.

In alot of street fights you will probably find youself in a close-up situation, grappling, or on the ground. And this is where judo can come in helpful. In Judo, your taught alot of throws, and these are based on leverage. When applied properly(leverage) a smaller man can easily take down a larger man. THe faster and stronger his attack, the easier and stronger your throw will become, meaning he is going to hit the ground a hel! of alot harder. And when your foe hits the ground hard, he will momentarily be stunned, and thats the time to apply a punch or well aimed kick. (depending on the throw used and your body position).

Judo also has many finishing techniques, chokes, armbars, etc. So yes, Judo is a effective art.

However, mostly gone are the days of a good skin fight (street fight). Nowdays there are too many crazies with guns, or you will find your azz being sued off for assualt and battery. With this in mind, my reply is intended for ONLY if you find yourself in a have-to defend one's self situation.
Reply:Judo is a sport, it is not a method of fighting.

There are no rules in a street fight.

It will not work outside the Dojo.
